Oakland Youth-Friendly Business Awards

The Oakland Youth-Friendly Business Awards are granted in each category below to businesses and workplace mentors who demonstrate a deep commitment to support Oakland youth.

The deadline is August 5, 2016.

Workplace Mentor Award 

This award goes to an individual who has mentored an Oakland student in a workplace environment. Eligible individuals must have been employed by the same place of business for at least a year and served as a workplace mentor to a student or students for at least six months. To be eligible, this person may not receive a stipend or any extra funding beyond their normal salary for their mentoring work with youth. Please make sure to fill out both the Youth Section and the Adult Ally sections of the form. 2016 Mentor Nomination Form

Small Business Award

This award goes to a Bay Area business with fewer than 40 employees (franchises are okay), that supports Oakland youth, but does not have youth development work as one of its core objectives. Eligible businesses must have engaged in at least one youth-friendly activity for ta least six months prior to the date of the nomination. 2016 Small Business Nomination Form

Big Business Award

This award goes to a Bay Area business with more than 40 employees (franchises are okay), that supports Oakland youth, but does not have youth development work as one of its core objectives. Eligible businesses must have engaged in at least one youth-friendly activity for at least six months prior to the date of the nomination. 2016 Business Nomination Form

Nonprofit Award

This award goes to a Bay Area nonprofit that supports Oakland youth, but does not have youth development work as one of its core objectives. Eligible nonprofits must have engaged in at least one youth-friendly activity for at least six months prior to the date of the nomination. 2016 Business Nomination Form

Government Award

This award goes to a government agency that supports Oakland youth, but does not have youth development work as one of its core objectives. Eligible agencies must have engaged in at least one youth-friendly activity for at least six months prior to the date of the nomination. 2016 Business Nomination Form

 

ELIGIBILITY: To nominate a business or mentor, you must be an Oakland student, Oakland resident, or work in Oakland. You may not nominate your own business or workplace, a relative, or yourself. 

Winners are selected based on the number and substance of nominations and chosen by a youth-run selection committee. All verified nominees will receive a window decal to identify their workplace a youth-friendly business, as well as a place in the Oakland Youth-Friendly Business Directory. Questions?
